4Good Value -- My scope of choiced for bench work

I have really started to like my scope. At first it took a little getting used to since the controls are a bit different from a hardware scope -- but now it is my scope of choice on the bench except where I need the wide bandwidth of an analog scope. The hardware is supurb -- it is accurate and the triggering is excellent. The best feature, of course, is its ability to show what happened BEFORE THE TRIGGER which is great for catching the glitches that caused the trigger event.

The spectrum analyzer is OK once you understand that there is not low pass filter so that signals that are above the high frequency cutoff alias into the inband display. It could have log displays etc, but for the dollar it's a great value.

The transient recorder looks good and is a unique feature that I haven't had occasion to try yet.

The scope installed quickly and ran the first time on my windows XP and VISTA machines. The two probes that are supplied are great quality and very similar to the TEK/HP probes we are all used to.

My only criticism is that while the software user interface is quite usable, it's a bit clumsy and was probably written some time ago and never updated to act like more current interfaces. The online documentation is a bit weak and could use some improvement and the hard copy is very basic. But, as I said, the scope is quite functional after you get used to the interface.

While it isn't quite as good as a $5000 TEK digital scope it sure gives plenty of bang for the buck.

I'd buy it again in a minute.

5Digital Storage for

Digital storage for an inexpensive price. The device works fine. It outperforms what an employer spent 6000$(+) for in 1987.
Outperforms by an order of magnitude I might add. Now I can get data into my computer, very simpie and fast.

4Saved My Bacon On More Than One Occasion

I do software development close to bare metal with systems ranging from tiny PIC and AVR microcontrollers to larger ARM and PowerPC microprocessors. I never thought I'd purchase an oscilloscope from Amazon.com, but here I am. I used this device most recently over a five month period to look at analog signals on a project for which I was writing firmware for PIC MCUs for building automation sensors. Several of the underlying sensor chips had analog outputs, for which this was indispensible. I also used it to debug issues with the power conversion circuitry, to monitor pulse width modulation output, and the like. Since it connects to my Windows laptop via USB, and the UI SW runs on Windows, it was dirt simple to take screen snapshots of scope traces and email them to the remote hardware engineer with a note saying "See! I'm NOT crazy!" I also used such snapshots as part of the system documentation. Since the UI SW can be easily downloaded to any Windows system, I routinely installed it on customer machines so all I need to do is show up with my tool bag and this little device, which is about the size of a trade paperback book, to help troubleshoot a problem. I did find that to get the USB speed I needed, I typically had to plug it directly into the laptop, not a hub. And I wish the UI had simulated dials instead of buttons on the screen like a conventional DSO. But this little gem was invaluable.
