These are just a few salient points of my new 287 and would encourage you to download and read Fluke's 287 on-line manual. Despite the marketing, this is NOT a scope meter, but it goes a good bit beyond my venerable, revered and dead 87. I also have an 867B that only gets pulled out as the 'big gun'.
287 Pros
It's as well built as my 867B and the long dead 87 it will replace.
It uses AA batteries as opposed to the rechargeable 867 pack that is beyond annoying.
It's true RMS to 100-Khz for audio geeks.
It can simultaneously display AC-and-DC, can display AC-plus-DC, includes peak measurements and smoothing options.
It can display dbv along with dbm at 600-ohms and other references.
Its min-max features are an improvement over the 87.
It finally provides for a meaningful and useful capacitance measurement range.
It usually measures with quick, accurate response ... very little delay.
It FINALLY has a useful AUTO-RANGE system, no doubt aided by the FIVE digit display. I measure a lot of moving-value 1-vac audio systems where the 87 / 867B auto-range function is fully useless. This one ... I LIKE.
287 Cons
It had a hard time locking on to Type G and 290 capacitors below 4pf in noisy areas - a backup Extech 505 beat it. I suspect this might be the result of higher sensitivity. In a low noise environment, the Fluke locked on well.
Fluke's 287 "TrendView" is not a scope-meter feature. I list this as a con to warn that Fluke's product page looks deceptive. The 287 can record up to 10,000 data points with a programmed start-stop and interval time. The interval is no faster than 1-second. However, one can also program a threshold called an 'event' as a percentage variation from the original 'start' values and does immediately record. Read Fluke's on-line manual to make sure this feature is what you want. You may need to pay even more for "FlukeView" forms software to see the entire record and for the PC interface cable; another reason why "TrendView" is in my 'con' list.
Service
I can't let this go. If your Fluke meter fails, be prepared to throw it away because getting it repaired often costs as much as buying a new unit. That's happened to me, twice, and developing problems with my 867B are causing deep depression. Fluke will not evaluate an issue without sending the meter in with a credit card. This is why I held out replacing my Fluke 87 for over three years when it failed. Beware ... there is NO headroom if you exceed input ratings. It is VERY easy to let the smoke out of a Fluke.
Conclusion
Anyone who needs a capable meter good to 100-Khz True RMS and accurate wide-band audio measurements will like this meter as the every day capable tool. It's expensive and it costs extra to take full advantage of TrendView via FlukeView Forms and extra cost PC cables. Nothing is free with Fluke, including an optional case. But ... it's a darn good meter.

In my opinion this is the best Fluke multimeter out there for the serious user. The meter is packed with options and application flexability. The trending cabability is a must have for industrial applications. Just keep in mind that the trending is event driven which for most applications isn't a problem.

In the world of multi-meters, there is a saying; "If it's good, it must be a Fluke." This meter is no exception. Agile display, packed with features not available on most meters, and backed by Fluke. You pay a lot for a Fluke and it seems like a case (and maybe the logging software) should come with it for that price, but the meter itself is beyond reproach. It is, simply, the best. Don't settle for a cheap meter if you need accuracy and dependability, get a Fluke.
