The Fluke 179/IMSK Digital Multimeter is compact, rugged, reliable, and easy to use. Unlike averaging meters, which can accurately measure only pure sinewaves, True RMS meters accurately measure distorted waveforms. The selectable AC filter (smoothing mode) helps display a steadier reading when the input signal is changing rapidly or is noisy. The 179 features a 6000-count, 3-3/4-digit backlit display and an analog bar graph. Because the bar graph updates about 40 times per second, which is 10 times faster than the digital display, the bar graph is useful for making peak and null adjustments and for observing rapidly changing inputs. The MIN MAX AVG recording mode captures the minimum and maximum input values, and calculates a running average of all readings. When a new high or low is detected, the meter beeps. The external accessible battery is easy for battery changes. The 179 runs about 200 hours without backlight on one 9-Volt battery (included). The 179/IMSK Kit includes the Fluke 322 with the inrush feature that measures motor starting current like a circuit breaker or overload unit sees it. One button lets you troubleshoot current surges that can cause nuisance tripping. Fluke's inrush feature gives you a synchronized reading of the current draw profile from motor start up. Also included are the Fluke 80BK Temperature Probe with a measurement range up to 260-degrees Celsius, a user's manual and a set of test leads. The kit meets CAT III and CAT IV IEC 61010 standards. Great product they are flukes, easy to use. Would have been 5 stars but only came with one set of test leads for two meters.

I bought this with the intention of beginning a few interesting electronics hobby projects. I've never worked with electronics before (I'm a programmer) and I purchased this package without realizing the importance of being able to measure microamps; I'm rating this product a 5 since this is my own fault. I will keep this multimeter and look into using this in conjunction with a higher end Fluke multimeter - perhaps the 87-V which seems to be well liked.
